Brown Bear in the Wild Mendenhall Glacier Alaska

On a recent visit to the United States of America; Anne Michaelides, the founder of Nature Sign Design, had close encounters with a wide range of different animals. Anne travelled from California up the west coast of America to Alaska, and documented the journey with her trusty camera.

One of the most exciting and potentially dangerous encounters was with a brown bear, in the wilderness around the 13 mile long Mendenhall Glacier in Alaska. If you wish to see a brown bear in the wild, Alaska is probably one of the best spots to try. It is estimated that there are around 32000 bears in Alaska, this is about 95% of all the bears native to the USA.

The trip also included humpback whale spotting in Monterey Bay in California. This was the location of the recent BBC documentary “Big Blue Live“. Its also the location where a humpback whale breached over a couple kayaking.

But Anne didn’t only take photos of brown bears and humpback whales, she also visited the beautiful Bryce Canyon National Park, and took many pictures of the various rock formations. Despite what the name suggests the Bryce Canyon National Park does not contain a canyon. It is actually a number of natural amphitheatres, rock stacks called hoodoos and various other natural geological wonders.
