The Royal Parks Richmond Isabella Plantations

We were commissioned by the Royal Parks in London in Richmond to produce new signage for the Isabella Plantations area in the park. The Isabella Plantations is a very established part of the park, absolutely beautiful, with stunning examples of plants and trees. For this reason the Royal Parks did not want intrusive signage, the signs had to blend sympathetically within the gardens.

All the paths in the gardens have been completely refurbished, enabling wheelchair access and the group was extremely keen not to have fingerposts or anything that could be seen if you were looking around.

After a few meetings with the group and discussing possible options, it was decided that we would use large oak tree trunks, which had been recently felled from within in the park, these would lay beside the new paths and we would make new oak signs off site that could be inset into the logs on site.

This seemed the perfect solution; we were putting back into the gardens the old oak trees from Richmond Park true recycling!

We made the signs in our workshop, and installed them on site using chainsaws and large routers. Our specialist installation team did a great job as the park couldn’t be closed, and we had to work around the general public. Of course stringent health and safety procedures was adhered to, and in fact it made a great spectacle for visitors to watch the men at work.

We had tremendous feedback whilst fitting the signs, and after the official opening of the Isabella plantations have had further enquiries for similar projects.

The end result was amazing. Please click on bespoke projects to see the signs insitu.
